How did it all begin?
The York Blues were founded in November 1998. Danny Davis would apply to Chelsea FC for membership in the summer of 1998. On the way back from a
Chelsea
vs
Newcastle
game early in 1998/9 (1-1) a friend of Danny's spotted a letter from Jason Smith in Onside. They made contact, soon after they met at the Bay Horse on Gillygate in
York
. Also present were Mike Beaufoy from CFC, Liz Davis, Brian Hawthorn, Scott Twaite, a friend of Jason’s now in
Australia
and possibly a few others. It was decided that a Chelsea FC supporters club should be set up. Jason sourced a pub to meet, the
Royal Oak
on Goodramgate, He arranged a room for monthly meetings and so the Chelsea FC York supporters club kicked off. The club has gone from strength to strength over the last ten years. Since 1998, the club has grown and now boasts in excess of 50 members. The Club is always actively looking to recruit more members. Over the past few years the name of the branch has incorporated the name of "York & District” to widen our catchment area for recruiting more members to the club. The club has members from not only the city of
York
but from North and
West Yorkshire
, Humberside and the North East. The name "York Blues" has now been adopted as the official title of the supporters club. This new name for the club coincides with the new website name yorkblues.com. The club has developed business cards to distribute to non members and the club now boasts a state of the art website which is a source of information for both members and non members of York Blues. The club continues to grow and build for the future to ensure that Chelsea FC has a supporters club in the city of
